Responsive Search Ads and Landing Pages
The ad and the landing page are one unit. A great ad pointed at a generic homepage wastes the click. Match the promise end to end.
Responsive Search Ads (RSAs)
RSAs mix up to 15 headlines and 4 descriptions into combinations Google serves dynamically.
- Headlines: write 8-12 genuinely different ones, not 12 rewordings. Cover the core value prop, the specific outcome, social proof, a differentiator, the offer or CTA, and the keyword theme. Avoid tired filler like "unlock" and "seamless".
- Descriptions: 3-4. Lead with the outcome, back it with proof, end with a clear CTA.
- Pinning: pin sparingly. Pin only what must always show (a compliance line, your brand in position 1 for brand campaigns). Over-pinning kills Google's ability to optimize and tanks Ad Strength. Pin position 1 for one critical headline, leave the rest free.
- Ad Strength is a guide, not a grade that wins auctions - but "Poor" usually means you gave it too few or too-similar assets. Aim for "Good"+ without pinning everything.
- Run 2-3 RSAs per ad group and read asset-level performance. Replace "Low" assets, keep "Best".
Write to the query intent
- Brand ad: reassurance + direct CTA ("Official site. Start free.").
- High-intent non-brand: the specific outcome and differentiator ("Book 3x more meetings. No data setup.").
- Competitor: the honest contrast, no trashing ("Switching from [X]? Faster setup, no per-seat fees."). Put the keyword theme in at least one headline - relevance lifts CTR and Quality Score.
Landing pages
The fastest CPL win is usually the page, not the bid.
- Message match: the page headline echoes the ad promise and the query. Click "ABM platform for agencies" -> land on a page that says exactly that, not the generic homepage.
- One job per page: one offer, one primary CTA. Kill the nav-away links and the five competing CTAs.
- Speed: slow pages lose mobile clicks and drag Quality Score. Test it.
- Proof above the fold: logos, a number, a quote. B2B buyers need trust fast.
- Form length = intent gate: short forms = more leads, lower quality. Longer/qualified forms = fewer, better. Match form length to the funnel stage and what you'll feed back as a conversion.
Quality Score, practically
Quality Score (1-10, keyword level) is built from expected CTR, ad relevance, and landing page experience. Low Quality Score means higher CPC for the same position. When a keyword has low Quality Score, fix the weak component (usually ad relevance or the landing page) before throwing bid at it.
